There are a few, simple things that can be done when applying for a position that will up your chances for being accepted, as well as help the moderators make their choice. They are easy, and should probably be done without telling, but it must be said anyway.

1. Know the position you are applying for.

Really, no joke. Know it backwards and frontwards. Know the others in the position so you know who to go to if you are accepted for help starting out. Know what is required of the position so you can get a head start.

Ex. of What Not to Say: "I would like to be an instructor because I like talking to new members." (...new members=greeter, not instructor)

2. Do Something Previous To Applying

If you are applying for a position you have shown no effort in acheiving (ie. applying for greeter but have never greeted anyone, or applying for instructor but rarely give lengthy/thorough critiques) there is a very, very slim chance you will be accepted into the position. Do something that is going to make us want you in the position you are applying for. Think about it, in the real world if you are working you can't just do the minimum to get by in your job and expect to get a promotion, you have to go above and beyond. It is the same way here.

3. Make Yourself Available

When you apply for a position, make sure you are able to devote a good amount of time and energy to fulfilling the duties of said position. For example, instructors are expected to critique on a regular basis, greeters are expected to post in the welcome forums all the time--things like this. Don't apply on a whim!

If you follow these few simple guidelines, it will make the process run very smoothly for all involved!
