I mean with the gig and all and i what you to know that mia can play at Tric anytime she wants." The pain of her question had hurt him and she could hear it in his voice. |

Peyton stumbled. She was being rushed off the phone, and she knew Lucas better than anyone...she knew when something was up.
"Wait, Luke.."
She stood before her desk and looked at the calendar infront of her, as if she needed to "pencil it in"...but she would never have to make time for Lucas, she knew that. All of her time could be Lucas' if he wanted it.
"...do you want to meet me up at the coffee shop this afternoon?" |

| "uh.. yeah, I should be running practice but i think that skills, junk, and nate can handle it. I could really use a friend right now." He said in away that sounded pathitic, not that he meant to it was just how he was feeling when i said it. "I am going to go talk to my mom, and then how does four o clock sound to you?" he asked as he ran his hands threw his blonde hair. I front of him was the story that he had written about the comet and the scientist and he could see it now but what if it was to late what if he had messed things up to bad, what if he really was meant to be with Lindsay? he thought. I knew the answer in his heart he just wasn't ready yet. |

A friend, she thought.
"Yeah."
Peyton had made her feelings clear to Lucas several times over the past couple weeks. Did he still think of her as a 'friend'? And how was she supposed to act? They had always been there for each other, even in the worst of times...but this time it was different. One longing and the other not...or was he? Peyton didn't know what to think anymore.
"4 is fine. Hey I have to go, Mia just pulled up. I'll see you at four."
She flopped the phone closed. It was a white lie, Mia wasn't there yet. But she couldn't be on the phone any longer. She sat down in her deskchair and put her head in her hands, rubbing her eyes a bit.
She wondered what Brooke was up to. |

Lucas:
Closed his phone and started to get up, I wonder what hay and Brooke are doing he thought.
Anything to distract himself from thinking about Lindsay and Payton. he texted both of them a quick hey whats new and then went into the kitchen to talk to his mother.
"Luke, I am worried about you." Karen said turning to see that Lucas had entered the room.
"I'll be okay mom, I just need sometime to think. Anyway how was your trip?" he asked trying to move the conversation.
"It, was wonderful, everything was so beautiful i wish that you could have come with me but i know that your book and the Ravens are inportant to you." she said letting him change the subject but not forget it.
"Yeah... they are." he said thinking about her words.
"I am going to head down to the river court and shoot around, Junk and skills are running practice for me." he said
"Alright just remember all the reasons that you love the things that you are doing alright." she told him as she hugged him.
"Don't worry i will mom."
He left the house and started walking down to the court, along the way he past by Keith's old shop.
"I miss you" he said out loud. |

Clearing his mind of all of this he went down to the river court and shot around for a while but it wasn't making him feel any better.
He look at he watch "4:01pm", the coffee shop was busy but he didn't see Payton anywhere. so he sat down and started to write... |

Peyton
Peyton sat outside the shop in her convertible. She looked at the clock. 4:01pm. She was having a hard time getting herself to go in. Too many things had happened, and she just didn't know how to handle them right now.
Her hair blew in the wind a bit, she sighed and pulled the sunglasses off her face.
"Now or never" she stated to herself and pulled the keys out of the ignition, opening the door and stepping out in a hurried manner...like if she went slow she'd stop and change her mind.
She made her way into the coffee shop and search the table for Lucas. Bingo, front corner. By the window. Great, she wondered, how much did he see?
Peyton made her way up to the table and placed her hands on the backrest of the empty chair, not sitting yet, "Hey stranger." |

I sat at my desk looking at what Lucas had written so far. I couldn't believe that I had done that at the wedding.

"The boy saw the comet and suddenly his life had meaning. I'm sorry Lucas, I can't marry you."

I had run out of the church. I looked at the card on my desk from Haley. It was for Jamie's birthday. I smiled at it and forgot about Lucas for a moment. |
