Peyton

She took a seat at the table, but didn't answer the question. The two sat in a bit of silence for a few moments. She knew he didn't really want an answer--not to mention he already knew what it would be. It was more of a "how are you?" derogatory question that relatives ask each other to be polite, no one really wants to know the answer. Peyton just decided she would lie, she just wouldn't answer.

She crossed her legs beneath the table and watched as Lucas shut his book and crossed his hands on top of it. They linked eyes and his blue hues seemed to sink deep within hers. If Lucas had been a stranger, she would have sworn he was judging her by her eyes. But, she knew him better. He didn't need the eyes anymore.

"So, what is going on?" Peyton asked, truly curious...but really only for the answer she wanted. She really had not planned on things turning out this way. Yes, she loved him, but she did not mean to break up his wedding and come between them. Lindsey just happened to be the inconvenience in the picture.

Her phone vibrated in her pocket. She pulled it out and examined the caller ID. Brooke. She'd call her back shortly. She silenced the vibration and set her phone on the table, looking back at Lucas for an answer.

*yeah sorry i will work on that i just am trying not to over step my roll*

Lucas watched as Payton placed to phone back in to her pocket.

"I have been writing a lot lately." He said as if that were an answer and not just a blanket statement. He wanted more than anything to open up and be close to Payton again but it just seemed so hard, as if it would be like digging the panama canal by hand.

"Look, it want things to be good between us again, I know that things are ok right now.... I guess i just want more than ok. Does that make any sense?" he asked with a confused look on his face.

Payton looked like a hodge podge of emotions ranging everything from, tired to worried and it didn't set right with Lucas because as much as he need some one to take to he also need some one to listen to. His thoughts were interrupted by the buzzing of his Iphone it was on silent but the vibrator was still making noise...

He looked at the phone, it was Hailey. Okay, this might be important Lucas thought to himself.
“Sorry, I had better take this its hails. I’ll be right back,” I said standing.
She looked a little disappointed, and he felt bad. He pushed the chair in and walked over to back of the shop, here stood a couple talking softly against a beige wall. He pushed the send button.
“Hello,” he said. On the other end he could hear Hailey out of breath.
“Luke, where have you been? You pretty much disappeared since…” she faded off
“I have been busy, sorry kid anyway what’s going on?”
“I am at Your practice grading papers and trying to keep up with Jamie. I know your hurt but snap out of it, we all miss you and I really could use someone to watch Jamie.” She said from her voice he could hear the exhaustion in her voice.
“Yeah, I miss you guys too, and I promise I will be more in your lives.”
Lucas made eye contact from across the room with Payton and smiled. “I think that Payton and I are going to watch some movies later and we would love to hang out with little man”
“That sounds great Luke.” Hailey Laughed.
Lucas hung up the phone and walked with a kinda half swagger back over to Payton.
“How would you like a movie date tonight with a handsome boy?” he smiled at her one of those famous devil made care grins.

Peyton

Peyton was a bit skeptical, unsure what he really meant by the acquisition. Things had changed between them since the night she took him home drunk--since the night he said he hated her. She knew he didn't remember, but she was less eager to be in his life all the same.

"Luke, I don't know if that's a good idea."

Her phone vibrated again, it was Brooke...again. She thought she should take it since Brooke was at the hospital with the baby.

"Hold on."

She flipped the phone open, "Hello?"

"Hey P. Sawyer, what are you up to?"

"Is everything okay?"

"Yea yea, she's doing great! I just...am a little bored, thought I would see what my best friend was up to."

"I'm actually kind of busy right now...can I call you back in a few?"

There was a pause on the phone, like Peyton had sent a secret signal, "....busy with......Luke?"

Peyton glanced up to Lucas, "Yea. So..later?"

"Go get your man P. Sawyer." And with that Brooke hung up. Peyton chuckled a little to herself, but she hadn't yet told Brooke about the drunken night. She loved her for trying to be helpful and cheerful for her, but it was not making it any easier.

She turned back up to Lucas, "Sorry, anyway, back to what we were talking about."

"It turns out that hay could use some help with Jamie, ... so i was thinking that the three of us could watch a movie... at the house and... ya know it would give Hailey some time for her music..." Lucas said kind of awkwardly.

"I don't know..." Payton said a little unsure.

"Okay, I guess it will be a guys night I guess" he said in a way that was still open for discussion.
