Quote:
Aug. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Republican John McCain picked 44- year-old Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate, a surprise choice designed to attract women voters and blunt concerns about his age.

Palin is appearing with McCain, 72, the presumptive Republican nominee, today at an event in Dayton, Ohio.

``I have found the right partner to stand up to those who value their privileges over their responsibilities,'' McCain said. Palin has an ``outstanding reputation for standing up to special interests and entrenched bureaucracies.''

Seriously. Hannah Montana would've brought youth and a fresh face to the ticket in a year where America is yearning for change. She has a strong appeal to the young crowd, and her concern for the environment would've been a big plus. But I guess we'll have to settle for an Obama - Biden vs. McCain - Palin race. How extravagantly boring.

Cheers! *toasts the Republican ticket* I'm no McCain fan, but I could come to like her.

I find it rather fascinating that McCain has only met Palin once before.

Fun times there.

Razz

She is actually a really interesting person, I read an article on her passing some gasoline tax or something good for the environment thingie.

If i were a republican, I would wonder if McCain had become senile.

But, as a Democrat, I have to thank him for giving us the election.

As my IS -- Election professor said: "If those Hilary fans vote for McCain because of Palin, then they are bigger dopes than we take them for."

I was totally shocked. I mean, noone notices us out here in Alaska, much less involves us in campaigns! I disagree with Sarah Palin's stance on just about everything. It's bad enough that she's running my state. XD

I thought about it though, and I can see why he chose her. Politically, she's pretty much his clone. In every other way, she's his polar opposite: female, young, attractive. He chose her for minority cred because he's so square and typical.

And yeah, anyone who thinks she'll sway former Hillary supporters takes feminists for a pretty stupid bunch. Remember that Palin is vehemently anti-choice.

Edit: Gyrfalcon, if you're not a Mcain fan, why do you say you could come to like Palin? Are they fundamentally any different in their policies? I think she's just a younger, prettier version of Mcain.
