Yay! NaNo!!!
All her life, Ukrainian twelve year old Everly Lutsenko has lived in Seneca-a small town in Central Oregon where everyone knows everyone. She has friends, a house on a small farm, and almost everything she ever wanted-but then one fateful day she finds her older sister Lena almost dead from hypoglycemia. At the hospital they learn that Lena has Type 1 diabetes and everything-and everyone, it seems-changes.
They decide to sell their home in Seneca and buy a convenience store with a cramped living space above on the Oregon Coast. Money is tight with Lena's hospital bills, her family is growing increasingly difficult to be around, she is facing horrible bullies at school, and is forced to go to speech therapy-and it isn't getting better. Sometimes she wonders where the meaning in her life is.
In the middle of all of this, she meets Yana and Mysha, two Ukrainian refugees, and her kind and bookish English teacher Ms. Poverly becomes aware of her problems, and everything seems okay for a while.
But in a few moments of time when they aren't there when she needs it, the bullies are mean in a different way than normal-and while the consequences aren't too drastic, everything gets harder. Can Everly manage her problems on her own, or is it finally time to ask for help? And maybe, just maybe, can things get better?

This is almost all of my character art!
https://ibb.co/jv9yvZB
Order is top to bottom, left to right. Mysha, Ms. Poverly, Yana, her Dad (i need to find a better image for him, that one doesn't work) her Mom, Lena, Everly, and Mark. I still need to add the mean people, I'll probably do that tomorrow.

Order is top to bottom, left to right.
Mysha, Ms. Poverly, Yana, Kya, Taylor, Dad, Mama, Lena, Everly, Mark.

Where do they live? What is it like there? Mysha lives in the small town on the Oregon coast called Billings. She originally lived in Kyiv, Ukraine, but she moved to Billings in the middle of the summer of 2022 because of the war. She likes Billings okay, but complains about the weather a lot and misses Ukraine a lot. It is very windy there and rains about twice a week year round, but snows in December. It's a small town, but still three times the size of Seneca. Her family rents a house about a mile from Everly's apartment.
Defining gestures or movements: Plays with her hair when she's nervous or excited or something unexpected is happening.
Speaking style: Very loud and excited and happy.
Pet peeves: Other annoying kids in her classes.
Fondest memories: The AM PM store near her house and Kyiv and the playground that she practically grew up on

This is my character questionnaire for my main character!

Name: Everly Anastasia Lutsenko
Age: 12
Height: 4'10'
Eye color: Green
Physical appearance: short, extremely skinny for her age and height, long dark brown hair, green eyes, heart shaped face because of how her hair is parted
Strange or unique physical attributes: None, really
Favorite clothing style/outfit: big long sleeve shirts with shorts or jeans and tennis shoes
Where do they live? What is it like there? Everly lives in the small town of Billings on the Oregon Coast. It only has 3,000 people living in the town and most of them are families with kids. It is windy and a little bit cold most of the year.
Defining gestures/movements: she cracks her knuckles when she's nervous, plays with her hair
Things about their appearance they would most like to change: she feels like she isn't pretty at all, so pretty much everything, but she does like her green eyes okay
Speaking style: she can't say the "r" sound and this makes her nervous, and no matter how hard she tries she is always too quiet when she speaks, and says her words very slowly and carefully so she won't mess up.
Pet peeves: people chewing gum with their mouth open or being fake
Fondest memory: eating ice cream at Mo's with her friends Amy and Jess
Hobbies/interests: she loves reading and reads a lot, she's a great writer, and eventually Sergei starts teaching her the piano and she turns out to be really good at that
Special skills/abilities: she eventually learns that she has musical talent, she has a very long attention span and can read for a long time, and she is a great writer.
Quirks/eccentricities: None, really
Temperament: quiet, reserved, kind
Negative traits: (oh man character faults) As a result of her entire life crumbling down, she kind of snaps at her family a lot (I promise there are more that will be told in the later questions)
Things that upset them: Kya and Taylor, Lena being sick, her Dad yelling, Lena crying to get what she wants, Lena being sick, kids being mean at school, sad things happening in the world
Things that embarrass them: being bullied
This character is highly opinionated about: rights for Ukrainian refugees
Any phobias? Talking to new people
Things that make them happy: when people are nice to her, reading, playing the piano
Family-describe: Mama, Dad, sister Lena, brother Mark
Deepest, darkest secret: She prayed that something would happen to her siblings so that her parents would focus on them instead of her, because they always picked on Everly and let Mark and Lena go. She blames herself for Lena's sickness. Plus, the day after Lena got sick at school they did a lesson on Type 1 diabetes where she learned that when they first get sick the longer you wait to get them help the worse it is and it took her a long time to realize that Lena was almost dead so she blames herself for how bad it is
Reason why they have kept this secret for so long: She doesn't want people to know it was her fault Lena got sick
Other people's opinions of this character: kids at school-weird Her friends: awesome but needs to ask for help Her parents: she always adds one more thing to their plate at the worst time, but a good kid Lena-poor Everly needs to do things for herself and ask for help, I love her too much to watch her suffer like this Mark: she's annoying but I secretly still love her Ms. Poverly: I should help her, she's a good kid and doesn't deserve this
Favorite bands/songs/types of music: she likes folk music, old songs, some Bruno Mars, a little bit of Steam Punk. She tries to like BTS because of Yana and Mysha, but fails except for one song
Favorite movies: Now and Then
Favorite TV shows: Gilmore Girls
Favorite books: she loved Oliver Twist, but mostly she loves contemporary books about kids her age.
Favorite foods: sushi, like Yana and Mysha
Favorite sports/sports teams: not a sports fan, but if she sees a football game on TV or something she roots for the underdogs
Religion/philosophy of life: Christian
Physical health: not athletic or fit, but she can run fast
Dream holiday: Thanksgiving with her family and cousins-in Billings
Description of their house: same as Ivan
Description of their room: You walk in, and bunkbeds are on the right, bookshelf on the left in the corner, desk next to bookshelf. The walls are plain white, the floors are pine.
Any pets?--None
What is the best thing that ever happened to this character? Meeting Yana, Mysha and Ms. Poverly
What is the worst thing that ever happened to this character? Kya and Taylor, Lena getting sick
Superstitions: None until Lena got sick on Friday the 13th
Three words to describe this character: afraid to ask for help, kind, selfless
If a song played every time this character walked into a room, what would it be? Ooh, that's tough. I'll have to think about it...
