In the fragmented twin cities of Montua and Verona, disease runs rampant. After the Flare of 2054, the atmosphere was completely destroyed, along with all the digital records built up by civilization over the years. With nothing but old relics from a past time, the survivors rebuilt what they once knew. But with the planet’s condition comes new dangers; the sun beats down through a virtually nonexistent atmosphere, scorching the skin of anyone who dares venture out during the day. Mutations of once-familiar illnesses turn anyone infected into mindless flesh-craving beasts, which stalk the streets at night. It’s a dangerous place for the young Juliet, even when she’s covered by the thumb of her overbearing father.
For Romeo, on the other hand, life is great. She lives in the floating city of Verona, hovering safely above Montua and all its crawling filth. She has food and shelter and everything she could ever need. It isn’t until she meets Juliet that she begins to wonder; why the separation? Why the fighting? They all have the same goal, after all—survival.

*Le Vibes/Characterizations*

In this story there are four main characters:

1. Romeo
2. Juliet
3. Benvolio
4. Mercutio

I want them all to have very different personalities/aesthetics.

Romeo:

-Reckless, loud, and adventurous
-Often disregards rules and doesn't think much about how her actions will affect others
-Good intentions, but rarely thinks things through
-Loves fighting monsters, and has many body modifications to enhance her ability to do that
-Thinks any problem can be solved if you punch it hard enough
-Chronically in trouble
-Slightly full of herself

Juliet:

-Kind, thoughtful, quiet--the antithesis of Romeo
-Often overthinks, leading to anxious spirals
-Envious of Romeo's confidence
-Constantly under the influence of her father, who holds an alarming amount of control over her life
-Yearns for freedom
-Not a fighter, but will hit you with a lamp if you make her mad enough

Benvolio:

-Careful, meticulous and levelheaded
-Usually the voice of reason, which Romeo despises him for
-Runs an antique restoration business, which Romeo thinks is the most boring Grandpa thing anyone could ever do
-His main method of problem-solving is diplomacy
-Often gets caught up in the politics of the two cities(which stresses him out, but he'd never admit it)
-Has ocular modifications that allow him to see finer details in his work

Mercutio:

-Cheerful, energetic, and a great appreciator of a good time
-The only person who can convince Benvolio to do anything remotely risky
-Very protective of his friends
-Easygoing and generally unbothered by most things

I missed a few days AAAAAA I got writer's block just in time for NaNo T-T

I swear I'm still working on this, I just gotta get it running again. Hopefully I'll be able to make a post in a couple days after I recover from burnout.

Okay, I wrote 520 words. May post an excerpt later, if I feel like re-reading my shoddy, unedited work lmao

Also, thank you @Carlito for the recommendation! I'll see if I can find it 'cause that sounds like a great read :)

I wrote 1,000 words today! Here's an excerpt:

Spoiler! :
“Alright,” Lady Montague set the flashcards aside, leaning forward. “What do you want, then, daughter?”
“Freedom,” Romeo answered stoutly. Lady Montague lifted her head.
“Yes, I do believe we all want that,” she agreed. “However, your definition of freedom is being able to do whatever you decide. And I’m afraid that simply isn’t possible.”
“Why not?”
“You’re a grown woman, Romeo, whether you like it or not,” Lady Montague fixed her daughter with a neutral stare. “And as a grown woman you have responsibilities to fulfill. You can’t just go running off into the sunset with your jacket and sword, disintegrating problems until they go away. There are things you can’t fix with force or money, or even power.”
