Other than Wikipedia, does anyone know where I can find a list of traditionally female stereotypes (eg: nurturing, emotional, pro-social, hypersexualized, &c.), gender roles (eg: teacher, nurse, secretary, stay at home mom, &c.) and/or stock characters (the tomboy, the girl next door, the bimbo, &c.)? Pretty much what I need is a list of things we've all heard, anyway.

It needs to be an academically acceptable source, which rules out Wikipedia's rather complete and handy-dandy list. (I was going to use the sources but there were none.)

Well, maybe, but we've developed some new ones in the last 2,000 years. (Plus, I need to do this essay by Friday. I don't have time to read all of that!) I'm looking for a website or something that lists these stereotypes.

I did a quick Google Search and came up with a few links that might help you:

http://people.unt.edu/jw0109/misc/stereotype.htm

http://it.stlawu.edu/~advertiz/children/gender.html

http://www.faqs.org/health/topics/8/Gender-roles.html

http://www.uoregon.edu/~bfmalle/212/aneelah_pap.html

http://www.unc.edu/~lorelei/sexroles.html

http://www.aber.ac.uk/media/Students/lzh9402.html

http://www.gicofcolo.org/gd/writings/awptext.html

http://www.osgf.ge/wie/7.html

They dont all "list" stereotypes/gender roles exactly but they give you some info on stereotyping etc. You might also contact a local university and ask to speak to the gender/women's studies professor or something - they might be wiling to help you. Hope you get some good info from those links :)

Thank you both for the links. I appreciate it.

(bubblewrapped; I'm in a local college. :) This is my first "real" essay.)

Are fictional books/television shows acceptable as an academic resource? Is this a stupid question?

Probably is.
