geocentric/egocentric
the geocentric model says that
earth is the center of the universe
and everything else orbits around us.
how egocentric.
we, puny humans,
not even existing for a
day in the cosmic calendar.
we dare to assume that the world
revolves around us? ha. that is hilarious.
(i wonder. will we still have that pride
if we discover other intelligent life?)
meteors
burning out like meteors
like chunks of junk
falling with a thunk
incinerating carnivores
wavering
the earth wobbles like a top.
(precession, it's called.)
what does it mean if even
something as large as the earth,
with a mass of approx 5.98 x 10^24 kg
and a radius of around 6.38 x 10^6 m
--i would say that's an astronomical amount,
but astro refers to stars, not planets
(a minor thing, but i like precision)--
wavers in its movement?
it's pulled by the sun and the moon
like we are pulled by ideas, thoughts,
the things and people around us.
we waver. but that is understandable,
for we are so tiny and easily influenced.
- - -
it frightens me. the importance that
uncertainty has in our world.
north star
our north star is polaris right now,
but in 14,000 years, it'll be vega.
(funny how people say, "you are my north star"
but don't realize that our north star will change.)
you say you are my compass, leading me home.
can i trust you not to lead me off the edge of the earth?
i am not a sailor, but you make me feel
like i am drifting, directionless, caught in the currents.
i must admit, i have always had my ears plugged
just in case you were a siren.
